Happy Easter… as celebrated in Aguas Calientes, Peru, near Machu Picchu
Two years ago on Easter Sunday, I joined townspeople, tourists, and Quechua porters just back from the Inca Trail for Mass at the tiny village church in Aguas Calientes, Peru, nearest town to Machu Picchu.
At the end of the service, the priest leads the congregation in applause.
I don't think the priest approved of my taking pictures during the service, but I did leave a 100 soles note in the poor box, and not just out of guilt.
